Sessions

Sessions

Sessions are preferably conducted on a one to one basis although I do hold ad hoc introductory workshops. An initial consultation and session takes just over an hour and subsequent sessions take 40 to 50 minutes. Both the initial session and subsequent follow ups cost £35.

Sessions are tailored to individual needs and require no specific exercises aside from the request that people attempt to lie down daily at home in a semi-supine position for about 20 minutes. The methodology for and benefits of this is explained in the first session.

The number of sessions required differs between individuals although the majority of people report improvements within the first couple of sessions.

Benefits

People have AT lessons for a variety of reasons. It is generally associated with back problems, sciatica, scoliosis and disc problems to name but a few, however it has also proved highly effective for a wide range of medical complaints i.e asthma, high blood pressure, poor posture, headaches, RSI, joint problems, indigestion and many more. Pregnant women also like it as it assists with carriage during pregnancy and makes the process of childbirth easier.

Some people have lessons for general reasons, say, to improve their posture or to assist with voice projection and control their nerves during public speaking.

It’s very popular in the performing arts and most music and acting colleges incorporate the Alexander Technique as part of the curriculum.

Famous advocates of the technique include Sebastian Coe, Linford Christie, Ruby Wax, Julie Andrews, Keanu Reeves, Michael Caine, John Cleese, Paul McCartney, Robin Williams, various members of the Royal family and many more.
